What are the ways of documents legalization?
There are several ways of legalization that are used in Ukraine depending on which country the papers are prepared for. For example, there is a simplified legalization procedure called apostillation. This option is suitable for the Hague Convention signatories. In this event, it is enough to affix an Apostille stamp on the documents so that it is recognized in the territory of another country. Such a stamp is placed in one of the relevant ministries, taking into account the specifics of the document.
Sometimes a double Apostille is required. It is affixed to the document original, and then one more stamp of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine should be affixed. This legalization approach is used when a person is going to Belgium, Holland or Austria.
Legalization in Ukraine can also be consular. It is a procedure that is approved by international law and is aimed at the recognition of documentation abroad. This procedure is applied to official documents to be used in countries that are not parties to the Hague Convention. Such a process includes several stages: legalization in ministries, translation, notarization and legalization in the consulate of a particular country.
NB!
It is not required to certify documents issued in the USSR by the regional department of justice.
Ukrainian documents that are not subject to legalization
A number of documents are not subject to consular legalization are originals, copies and photocopies of the following documents:
- Passport;
- International passport;
- Driver’s license;
- Vehicle registration certificate;
- Military ID;
- Employment record book;
- Authorization to possess weapons, etc.
